[align=left]because wherever one goes...

[align=left]- Europe, India, Australia or America,

[align=left]one finds more or less the same human problems.

[align=left]Most human beings in the world are so confused...

[align=left]...and living a contradictory life;

[align=left]they are thoroughly unhappy,

[align=left]utterly miserable and in great deal of sorrow.

[align=left]And one’s life seems to be a battlefield,

[align=left]from the moment you are born till you die.

[align=left]One finds, right through the world, division,

[align=left]each saying its way is the best and the only one...

[align=left]...and so on. There is division, conflict and war.

[align=left]There is division as the business world,

[align=left]the spiritual world, the religious world,

[align=left]or the professorial, college world.

[align=left]Seeing all this division, this utter chaos,

[align=left]or must one follow a course of action...

[align=left]...that doesn’t depend on any authority whatsoever,
...[font=宋体]那并不取决于任何权威，[/font][/align]
[align=left]neither the left, the centre, nor the right,
[font=宋体]不管是左倾、中立，还是右倾，[/font][/align]
[align=left]nor any guru, any teacher, any priest,
[font=宋体]也不依赖于任何上师、老师或者牧师，[/font][/align]
[align=left]or follow any organised religion, Catholic, Protestant, what you will,
[font=宋体]或者追随任何有组织的宗教，天主教、新教，随你所愿，[/font][/align]
[align=left]but follow one’s own inclination, tendency;
[font=宋体]而是追随自己的爱好、倾向；[/font][/align]
[align=left]or follow one’s own experience and knowledge,
[font=宋体]或者追随自己的经验和知识，[/font][/align]
[align=left]self-reliant, confident and purposeful.
[font=宋体]独断独行，自信并且果断坚定。[/font][/align]
[align=left]There is so much contradiction, not only outwardly...
[font=宋体]有太多的冲突，不仅仅有外在的[/font]...[/align]
[align=left]...but also inwardly.
...[font=宋体]而且也有内在的冲突。[/font][/align]
[align=left]And what is one to do?
[font=宋体]那么该怎么办呢？[/font][/align]
[align=left]I’m sure you must have asked this question many times -
[font=宋体]我相信你肯定无数次地问过这个问题，[/font][/align]
[align=left]the more serious one is the more earnest,
[font=宋体]一个人越认真，就越热切，[/font][/align]
[align=left]and not seeking entertainment,

[align=left]one must have really deeply asked this question,

[align=left]confronted by a world that is so chaotic, contradictory, divided,

[align=left]knowing very well that one has lost faith,

[align=left]having no trust in anybody,

[align=left]If you are at all serious,

[align=left]then where are you to look for light,

[align=left]for an understanding?
[font=宋体]寻找一种领悟呢？[/font][/align]
[align=left]What we are trying to do is to find out for ourselves,
[font=宋体]我们正努力做的正是要去自己发现，[/font][/align]
[align=left]confronted with this extraordinary problem of living,
[font=宋体]面对这个生存的重大问题，[/font][/align]
[align=left]with all its contradictions and complexities,
[font=宋体]面对它所有的复杂矛盾，[/font][/align]
[align=left]what is the course of action which will not be contradictory,
[font=宋体]要采取一系列什么样的行动，其中没有矛盾，[/font][/align]
[align=left]which will be whole, complete,
[font=宋体]只有完整，和圆满，[/font][/align]
[align=left]which will not produce more agonies,

[align=left]And to find that out is our problem -

[align=left]and I think that is the only problem in life.

[align=left]An action that is not broken up, that is not contradictory,

[align=left]that is continuous, whole, complete and total,

[align=left]so that it doesn’t bring more sorrow, more confusion.

[align=left]And if you will, we will go together into this question,

[align=left]bearing in mind that the speaker has no authority whatsoever,

[align=left]Unless we find such a way of living, not an abstract idea,

[align=left]a philosophical concept, a theory,

[align=left]but rather an actual way of living,

[align=left]And I feel to live that way is the only religious way,

[align=left]We are using the word “religion”..

[align=left]...not in the accepted sense of that word,

[align=left]which is to believe in something,

[align=left]we are using that word as a way of life in which...

[align=left]We’re going to go into that.

[align=left]First of all, to understand all this,

[align=left]And to see if all that can end, so that...

[align=left]...we can live quite a different kind of life,

[align=left]So one asks, observing all this,

[align=left]So the question is, how to observe,

[align=left]how to observe oneself,
